Featured Rescue: Luv A Chin
The Japanese Chin. Small, beautiful, and in the Midwest quite possibly unheard of. Here in the land of the Labrador it's hard to believe that Sioux Falls is home to a rescue dedicated to this delicate dog. Luv A Chin rescue is a foster based group. Dedicated to their mission of saving these small spaniels from a life of breeding to supply pet stores, the rescue has at times even purchased them at auction in the hopes of giving them a real life. Although a small dog, a female can possibly deliver a litter of 8! Trapped in a puppy mill, with no socialization, these dogs need the love of a dedicated foster to help them learn that humans can be their friends, and that they can be a companion. A romantic history adds to their allure. Often a gift of the Japanese Royal Court, and once even to Queen Victoria, their story goes far back in to the 1700's. Their feathery, curled tail, and charming face makes them lovable on first site. Although a good natured, lively dog, the Chin is more suited to an adult home or a home with children who understand the needs of a small creature. Quite, clean and moderately active they are a great dog for apartment life, or a small home. Recently Luv A Chin took part in a massive rescue effort, and is looking for reliable, safe foster homes for over 40 dogs! These small ones have only known cage life, the sad life of a breeding animal. Their natural affection will need to be coaxed out so they can become the lovely companions they were meant to be.
