Heartless in the Heartland
Living in the Dakotas we often show are pride in our in our family values, kind hearts, and open doors. You are raised to believe in the good of all people. And then a story like this puts a heavy weight on your faith in your Midwestern neighbors.... This mother dog and her hours old pups were dumped in a field in northern South Dakota. Still attached by umbilical cords, the babies were huddled under their mother in the little burrow she'd dug to protect them. More amazing than the horror of someone dumping this pregnant dog, is the strength a mother will find to save her children. I should hope if it were me, I could be so resilient for my child! I could dwell on the anger I have for someone so cruel to leave this family to the elements. But I won't. Instead I will praise the rescuer who took a tip about this dog left in a field and followed it up. I will praise the rescue, Almost Home , that will take them in tonight, clean them up, and feed them. I will praise the donors that will stop out at Almost Homes fundraiser this Saturday and donate to the care of these tiny things. And last, I will praise the forever home yet to be found for taken a sad story and making it bright. And these are the things that will restore my faith in the family values, kind hearts, and open doors on the wide open plains.
