Hot Dog Night, Luverne Minnesota
I has a hotdog! and boy can it run!
We all know my affection for I Can Has Cheezeburger and I Has A Hotdog . But this post is about a real live event! Hot Dog Night in Luverne, Minnesota. Although the event begins at 6:00pm and has many family friendly events, a big highlight of the night will be the 1st Annual Wiener Dog Beauty Contest, and the 5th Annual Wiener Dog Race!
A special treat will be the appearance of the Dakota Dachshund Rescue! DDR is a Sioux Falls area rescue that deals solely with their beloved breed, the Dachshund. The affectionately nicknamed "Doxies" or "Wiener Dogs" they take in are treated to love, affection, veterinary care and training in this foster based rescue.
Although you may think of this smaller sized dog as one of the "toy" dogs, it was originally developed to be a serious working dog. The name Dachshund is German for 'badger dog', with it's original purpose to burrow in the ground, root out and fight badgers! Combine that fearless energy, with a natural friendliness and you have one exciting companion.
Dachshunds are available in many colors, DDR currently has a showcase of reds, blacks, dapples and more. Long, short or wire haired, whatever your idea of the perfectly groomed partner is you can find it at this rescue!
My personal favorite amongst the DDR family, is Betsy. Her story really calls to your heart. Separated from her owner when the nursing home they lived in changed it's policy on pets, Betsy was very fortunate at the senior age of 9 to find her way to this rescue and not languish in a shelter. If you are looking for a loving, trained companion, to enjoy your days with Betsy may just be the girl for you.
