Pet Events for the Second Weekend of July
This weekend promises to be a beautiful one. I know many people are looking for fun, free, family friendly events and there are several coming up for July 11th, 12th and 13th. Of course I'll start with the great pet adoption and rescue events, and then I'd like to throw in another event that is really worth supporting. If you are in the Sioux Falls area Pit Rescue of the Great Plains will be holding their monthly adoption event at PetSmart on S. Louise Ave. They will have volunteers, information and available dogs on site from noon to 5pm, Saturday July 12th. PRGP is currently looking for potential new foster homes. If you think you may be interested in helping one of these great dogs find a forever home, stop out and learn more at this event. PRGP also has major plans for August, the Dog Days of Summer Rally to Rescue event. Rally to Rescue is a great program, sponsored by Purina to help rescues with out shelters increase their marketing ability. This event will feature several area rescues, and lots of dog friendly activities. Mark your calendars, Dog Days of Summer will be held on August 9th. On Friday July 11th, and Saturday July 12th the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society will be holding their Tip of the Tail Rummage Sale. The sale is right on the SFAHS property at 3720 E. Benson Rd. from 9am to 6pm. This will be a huge fundraising event, there are so many items from electronics, to clothing and household goods. At the same time you can stop in the shelter and visit with some of the many animals waiting there for new homes. Although June was Adopt a Cat month, the shelter is at 100% capacity for cats and kittens right now. They are looking for loving adopters, and safe happy foster homes for the many felines in their care. Perhaps you can not adopt or foster a cat at this time, but have a favorite at the shelter, consider making a donation toward that cats adoption fees, making them more appealing to a family in need of a new pet. Although the Second Chance Rescue Center's Pet Saver Program is two weeks away (Saturday and Sunday, July 19th and 20th) pre-registration is required! So please contact Tanya at 605-362-1722 this week to reserve your spot in this important seminar. Being prepared can make all the difference in an emergency, could you save your pets life if you had to? SCRC is doing a great service to area pet owners by bringing this seminar to Sioux Falls, and at a discounted rate of $80, don't miss it! Folks in the Madison, SD area won't be left out this weekend. Almost Home Canine Rescue will be at Pamida, 800 S. Washington Ave, from 10 am to 1pm on Saturday July 12th. Almost Home has taken in several dogs that were dieing in horrific puppy mill conditions over the last few months. With proper food, vet care, and alot of TLC these wonderful dogs are waiting to show you all they have to offer. And of course I'd love for you to ask to meet Robbie, I'm sure he'll be glad to great you with a wink and a smile. Also caring for a number of rescued puppy mill dogs, Luv A Chin Rescue will be having a meet and greet on July 19th at Your Pet Stop on east 41st. But don't wait two more weeks to check out these adorable pups, they have a collection of adorable photos on the Luv A Chin Blog! See them today, love them tomorrow. Looking ahead to August, Saturday August 2nd the Sioux Falls Canaries supports the Double HP Horse Rescue. Stop out, meet the volunteers, and order your 2009 Unbridled Beauties calendar. Meet the ladies of the calendar and get an updated on the future calendar unveiling event. Stay after the game to enjoy the Cartwright Brothers live in concert. Now, although this is not animal related, it is a great event none the less! Downtown Sioux Falls will be the place to be on Saturday July 13th. The 13th Annual Make A Wish HOT HARLEY NIGHTS will be happening from 6:30pm and on! There will be events Thursday and Friday also. Raising nearly $200,000 last year, this event continues to be a main attraction of summer for Sioux Falls and the surrounding area. Although I recommend you leave your pets safely at home, away from the noise of the parade and heat of the street, I encourage you to come out and support this worth while cause.
