Unbridled Beauties - Exclusive Sneak Peek
On a hot summer day in June, a group of women met on a quiet farm in small town South Dakota. With the help of photographer Amanda Smith, writer Judy Collins, and the horses of Double HP Rescue, they captured a sense of splendor unique to the Midwestern plains. Double HP is a non profit organization that rescues neglected and abused horses in South Dakota. Like most rescues, they are funded by the gracious donations of those who believe in their cause. With an upcoming interview for Open Range Magazine in the works, a fresh idea for funds was born. Smith offered to donate her time, skills and media savvy to shoot a calendar featuring the horses of the rescue. This would be a calendar like no other. After reaching out to several area women, who were known to be both invested in rescue, and interested in adventure, "Unbridled Beauties" took shape. With the ladies posing for revealing, but tasteful photos, the day was all about the beauty you can only find with real women ! Smith has been a professional photographer for 18 years. As owner of Open Range Magazine, she is well versed in the honesty of western life. The magazine prides itself on it's true portrayal of the day to day realities it's readers face. Although they often show the gritty side, this photo shoot captured a bit of the glamour to. Her first time in South Dakota will always be a memorable one. Most of the 12 women had no model experience. Moms, wives, business women, this was a day of firsts for everyone. "I thought is was a wonderful experience and I enjoyed working with each woman and each horse. Each one was incredibly easy to work with and each woman was beautiful and not afraid to pose. It amazed me how wonderfully each woman gave me exactly what I wanted as a photographer." Smith said. Although this charity calendar is a first of it's kind for Smith, it promises to be a success. "Double HP is in my heart now, and I will help in whatever way I can to be sure that the calendars raise a good deal of monies so that Double HP can remain alive and well for years to come."
